The field season on Mt. Erebus is short (3-6 weeks), during which a tremendous amount of work needs to be accomplished. When the weather provides a safe and comfortable working environment, researchers spend nearly each waking hour of every day laboring in all corners of the mountain collecting data. However, when the wind speeds increase, all are forced inside. During storms, one could spend time in one's tent, but unless a person is asleep, the noise and cold quickly drive you into the hut. The lower Erebus hut is where the majority of bad weather time is spent. Here are some pictures to show how some people deal with being stuck in a small room for days at a time.
