For many of the years scientific research has been conducted on Mt. Erebus, geophysicists have relied on analog short-period seismometers. Within the past few years, there has been a large push to replace many of these older seismometers with new digital broadband instruments. In addition to the seismic monitoring, some stations are also collecting tilt, GPS, infrared, infrasound, meteorological and gas chemistry data. Here are some photos showing the installation of some of these new stations.
